How it works
Learning that fits
around your child
No scheduling. No awkward silences. No waiting for a tutor to become available. flux.study works when your child needs it — for five minutes or fifty.
Tell us about your child
Year group, exam board, current topics. flux.study builds a personalised learning path aligned to exactly where they are in the UK curriculum — not a generic one-size-fits-all programme.
Your child learns with their AI tutor
The tutor asks questions, explains concepts, and guides them to the answer — never just giving it. It adapts in real time based on what they know and what they're struggling with.
You see the progress
The parent dashboard shows exactly what your child worked on, where they're confident, and where they need more practice. Real insights, in plain language — not just a number.

Safeguarding isn't a feature.
It's the foundation.
Every decision we've made — technical, pedagogical, and product — has been made with your child's safety at the centre. flux.study is a walled learning environment. It does one thing: it teaches. Everything else is locked out.
Closed environment
flux.study cannot browse the internet, access social media, or be prompted to discuss anything outside the curriculum. The AI operates within a strictly defined educational boundary — it cannot be steered off-topic, no matter what a child types.
Topic-locked AIEvery conversation reviewed
All sessions are logged and subject to automated safety review. If a conversation raises a serious concern, the session stops and the parent gets an urgent email, and a person can take it further. Parents can access full session transcripts from the dashboard at any time.
Full transparencySocratic, not shortcut
flux.study never writes essays for children or gives direct answers. It guides, questions, and prompts — exactly as a good teacher would. It's designed to make children think, not to think for them.
No cheating enabledAge-appropriate at every step
The AI is tuned specifically for 7–16 year olds. Language, tone, and content are calibrated to the child's key stage. It will not engage with requests for adult content, and any attempt to access inappropriate material is immediately redirected.
7–16 age-tunedNo social features
There is no messaging, no community, no forum, no leaderboard that reveals personal information. Children cannot communicate with other users. flux.study is a private, one-to-one learning space — just your child and their tutor.
No peer contactYour data, plainly
Your child's learning data is stored in the UK (Supabase, London). We use a small number of trusted providers to run the service — hosting, email, error-monitoring and AI tutoring — every one of them named in full in our privacy policy. We never sell your data or use it for advertising, and we never use it to train external AI models. Parents hold full data rights and can request deletion at any time.
Built to the ICO Children's CodeOur safeguarding promise to every parent
We are parents ourselves, and one of us is a teacher. We have built flux.study the way we would want a product built for our own children — with their safety treated as non-negotiable, not as an afterthought. If anything ever concerns you, you can reach our safeguarding lead directly.
About us
Built by a teacher and a technologist.
Driven by what's fair.
flux.study was founded by two people who had seen the same injustice from different angles — one inside classrooms, one building software — and decided to do something about it.
We watched the same pattern repeat: bright, capable children falling behind not because they lacked ability, but because they lacked access. Access to a patient adult who could explain something a different way. Access to support after school when confusion turns into anxiety. Access to the kind of one-to-one attention that only exists for families who can afford it.
We built flux.study because that gap is not inevitable. Technology has made it closeable. And we intend to close it.

Chris Braley
Co-founder · Product & Operations
Chris has spent his career in technology, much of it learning new industries from the inside: finance, energy, logistics, e-commerce and legal tech. That range comes from a genuine love of learning: understanding how a sector really works, what its customers need, and where software can make a difference. He has spent years managing software products and leading customer success teams in global SaaS, where he has seen first-hand what makes customers stay, succeed and recommend a product. Experience across operations and finance has given him a practical grip on what it takes to run a business, not just build one. flux.study brings all of that together: a product shaped around how children actually learn, and a company built to serve the families who use it.
Our mission
We built this because the system isn't fair.
Private tutors cost £40–60 an hour. Most families can't afford that. flux.study exists to close that gap — built by a teacher and a technologist who've seen firsthand which children get left behind, and why.

Safeguarding FAQ
Questions every parent asks
before they say yes
The questions we hear most before a parent signs up. Every answer below describes what flux.study does today — including the places where the honest answer is “not yet”.
What does the tutor do if my child says something worrying?
Every conversation is assessed for risk as it happens, by a check that reads the whole exchange in context — your child’s age and subject included — rather than scanning for banned words. What follows depends on how serious it is. Something low-level is recorded and the lesson carries on. Something that worries us sends you an email straight away, with the conversation around it so you can see what was actually said. Something serious stops the session there and then — your child cannot continue it — and sends you an urgent email. A person on our side can take it further from there.
Who can see my child's conversations?
You can. Every session appears in your parent dashboard with its date, length and message count, and you can open the full transcript whenever you want it. We load that transcript only when you ask for it, never into the page by default — your child’s words should not be sitting open on a screen because you glanced at a list. No other family and no other child can see any of it. On our side, a conversation is read when a safety flag has to be reviewed. We would rather tell you that than claim nobody ever looks.
Can my child be contacted by strangers through flux.study?
No. There is no messaging, no comments, no profiles and no way for one account to reach another — we did not build the pipe, so there is nothing to switch off. The tutor cannot browse the internet or open a link.
What data do you collect, and can I have it deleted?
Everything we hold is listed in our privacy notice, in plain English. Yes, you can have it deleted: write to support@flux.study and we will come back to you within a month. Being straight about how that works today — we do it by hand when you ask. There is no delete button in your account yet, and nothing is clearing itself out in the background; the retention job we have built so far only counts what would one day be due and removes nothing. Both are on the list. Neither is done.
Does the AI ever just give the answer, or write my child's homework for them?
It will not hand over an essay. Help climbs in steps: first a nudge towards the part of the question that matters, then more of the method, and only at the top a full worked example. Your child has to ask for each step. There is a way to skip to that last one when they are truly stuck, and we think that is right — a child staring at a blank page learns nothing. What they get there is the problem worked through, not the answer on its own, and it does not carry over into the next piece of work.
What if I'm still not comfortable — can I talk to a real person?
Yes. Write to support@flux.study, or use the contact form on this page — both land in the same inbox. We are a small team, so it will be one of us who reads it and one of us who replies. If what you want is to ask the awkward question before you hand us your child’s name, ask it. We would rather answer it now.
What's the content based on?
The shape of it is the UK National Curriculum — KS2, KS3 and GCSE — and for GCSE subjects it follows the exam board you choose, AQA, Edexcel, OCR or WJEC. The topic lists underneath are drafted by the AI from syllabus and teaching material we upload, not typed out by hand, and every one of them is stored flagged as machine-generated so we can always tell which is which. It is not a question bank written by teachers, and you should know that before you sign up rather than after.
How do I know it's teaching the right things?
Less well than we intend to, and here is exactly where we are. A practising teacher has reviewed one part of this system — the way the tutor escalates help when a child is stuck — and cleared it. That was a real review and it was a narrow one. Nobody has yet gone through every topic list against every exam board specification, and no outside body has assessed our teaching. One of us is a qualified teacher and close to the work, which is not the same thing as an independent audit and we will not dress it up as one. The structure comes from the National Curriculum; one piece has had a teacher’s eyes on it; the rest is on the list and not yet done.
Can you limit the screen time for a child?
Not yet. There is no time limit, no daily cap and no finish-by setting in flux.study today, and we are not going to imply otherwise by describing a control that does not exist. For now the limit is the one you set on the device itself. We have written it down as something to build, and when it exists it will say so here.
Is it in line with DfE guidance on AI?
Carefully, and not in the way the phrase usually gets used. The Department for Education’s guidance on generative AI in education, updated in August 2025, is written for schools and colleges in England. It does not regulate a product a family buys to use at home, and there is no DfE approval scheme a product like ours can hold — so anyone telling you they are “DfE approved” is describing a badge that does not exist.
What we can tell you is where we stand against what that guidance asks of schools. It expects AI output to be treated as something needing human judgement rather than trusted outright. It expects filtering and monitoring to cover generative AI, not just the web. It expects children to be supervised and restrictions to fit their age. It expects data protection to be done properly. Our safety review, the transcripts we put in front of you, the age-banded tuning and our UK data handling are built against those same expectations. But no external body has assessed flux.study against them. Until one has, this is our account of ourselves, and you should read it as that.
